GETTING STARTED
How will you join the journey?
A meaningful commitment begins with the right tree, the right place and a plan for long-term care. These resources will help you prepare your Arbores Gratiarum journey before the first tree goes into the ground.
01 — MAKE YOUR COMMITMENT
Understand the seven-year journey and discern a commitment appropriate to your capacity and place.
02 — KNOW YOUR PLACE
Learn about the local ecosystem, climate, land conditions and communities connected to the site.
03 — CHOOSE YOUR TREES
Prioritize native and indigenous species suited to the ecosystem, with attention to biodiversity and long-term survival.
GROWING WITH CARE
The right tree. The right place. The right care.
Tree growing is more than putting seedlings into the ground. Ecological regeneration begins by understanding the place, choosing appropriate species and committing to care that allows trees and ecosystems to flourish over time.
NATIVE FIRST
Understand the seven-year journey and discern a commitment appropriate to your capacity and place.
RIGHT TREE, RIGHT PLACE
Learn about the local ecosystem, climate, land conditions and communities connected to the site.
CARE BEYOND PLANTING
Prioritize native and indigenous species suited to the ecosystem, with attention to biodiversity and long-term survival.
RESTORE, DON’T REPLACE
Protect existing forests and natural regeneration. Tree planting should support healthy ecosystems, not replace native forests, grasslands, wetlands or other valuable habitats.
AFTER PLANTING
Planting day is only the beginning.
The true measure of Arbores Gratiarum is not simply how many trees enter the ground, but how many are accompanied as they take root, grow and become part of flourishing ecosystems.
01 — NURTURE
Water and care for young trees according to their species, season and local conditions.
02 — PROTECT
Guard trees from avoidable damage, grazing, fire, invasive species and other locally relevant threats.
03 — MONITOR
Return regularly. Record survival, growth and condition, and learn from trees that thrive or fail.
04 — SUSTAIN
Continue stewardship as trees mature, while caring for the wider habitat and biodiversity around them.
We do not plant and leave. We plant, grow and sustain.
PRAYER & FORMATION
Let every tree become a prayer of thanksgiving.
Arbores Gratiarum is both an ecological commitment and a spiritual journey. Prayer, Scripture and formation can accompany every stage — from preparing the soil and planting the seedling to nurturing, protecting and celebrating the life that grows.
01 PRAYERS & BLESSINGS
Prayers for planting, caring for trees, thanksgiving for creation and community gatherings.
02 — SCRIPTURE & REFLECTION
Biblical reflections accompanying the seven-year journey from Seed to Fruit.
03 — FORMATION MATERIALS
Resources connecting care for creation, integral ecology, ecological conversion and the Christian vocation to safeguard God’s handiwork.
04 — LITURGICAL RESOURCES
Materials for appropriate use around the liturgical year, the Season of Creation, parish activities and significant moments in the Arbores Gratiarum journey.
We do not plant and leave. We plant, grow and sustain.
FOR COMMUNITIES
Grow together.
Arbores Gratiarum can take root in families, parishes, dioceses, schools, religious communities, organizations and institutions. Each community is invited to discern a commitment appropriate to its place, capacity and ability to provide long-term care.
01 — PLAN
Form a small team, identify suitable sites and partners, and develop a realistic commitment with clear responsibility for long-term care.
02 — ENGAGE
Invite families, young people, ministries, students, local communities and ecological experts to participate in ways appropriate to the place.
03 — GROW
Plant and nurture native and indigenous trees while protecting existing vegetation, habitats and natural regeneration.
04 — ACCOMPANY
Keep records, monitor survival and growth, share lessons and stories, and renew the community’s commitment year after year.
The goal is not the biggest planting event. It is a community of care that continues to grow.
FOLLOWING WHAT GROWS
Every tree has a journey.
Our shared story is not measured by planting alone. Arbores Gratiarum seeks to follow trees over time — from commitment and planting to survival, growth and long-term care.
01 — RECORD
Document what was planted, where it was grown and the community responsible for its care.
02 — RETURN
Visit the site regularly to observe the condition, survival and growth of the trees.
03 — REPORT
Update the Arbores Gratiarum journey with progress, challenges, photographs and lessons from the ground.
04 — LEARN
Use what we discover to improve future planting, strengthen stewardship and deepen ecological regeneration.
We count commitments. We record planting.
But above all, we follow what survives, grows and flourishes.
